Fox Network Television History

The Fox Network television history has not all been plain sailing. It was launched in October 1986 after the parent company of 20th Century Fox, TCF Holdings, sold 50% of its shares to News Corporation for 0 million in 1985. New Corporation then bought six television stations in various major cities from Metromedia. At this time, the stations that they bought were broadcastings to just 22% of households in the United States. Once they started broadcasting as Fox in 1986 there were reaching 80%. This however, was not enough to be considered alongside the other three main networks of ABC, CBS and NBC who were reaching over 97%. Fox was still in its infancy at this point and although it had many plans in the pipeline it was only broadcasting one show - The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers.

The network was seen to have a young and slightly irreverent outlook in its programming and was soon broadcasting shows such as 'Married... with Children' and 'The Tracey Ullman Show'. It was not long before 'The Simpsons' was born and this went on to be the longest running animated series and situation comedy in the history of U.S. television. Fox Network television history was being made.

'America's Most Wanted' was the next big success story in Fox Network television history and was the first show to make it into the top 50 shows of the week in the all important Nielson ratings. The show is still among the prime time hits. Although Fox was well on its way to being recognised as a top network broadcaster, its ranking with the other big three was still elusive.

Fox Network Television History

This all changed in 1993 when Fox gained the National Football League coverage contract. Until then this had been the rights of CBS, where it had found its home since the 1950s. After just one season of the NFL coverage, Fox had to be considered alongside CBS, ABC and NBC... the big three had become the big four. Around the same time, Fox started to broadcast some soap operas aimed at the younger audience and these were popular from the outset. Shows such as 'Beverly Hills 90210' and 'Melrose Place' were an important part of the Fox network but even they were beaten on viewing figures by 'The X-Files'. This was the networks entrance ticket to the Top 25 in the Nielson rating schedule.

Since then, Fox Network television history has given us such shows as 'Family Guy', 'King of the Hill' and many reality shows such as 'Joe Millionaire'. Such shows are not popular with everyone and some have knocked the network for broadcasting distasteful viewing. However, the finale of the first series of 'Joe Millionaire' was watched by over 40 million people. The figures speak for themselves. Fox has always been an entertainment channel. It has never faired well with news reporting but has found its own niche where it entertains and brightens up the lives of millions of viewers throughout the United States.

Sample Resume Objectives - Good, But Summaries Are Smokin'!

Since college I've been told that a resume ought to have an "objective statement" at the top. Maybe you've been told the same.

I'm here to tell you somebody's been lying to you!

Well, not necessarily, but maybe. Every resume has an objective, but not every resume has to have an objective statement. So before you get the urge to search online for sample resume objectives, keep reading.

Sample Resume Objectives - Good, But Summaries Are Smokin'!

Every resume has an objective. How you TALK about that objective in the resume is a different matter entirely.

An objective statement simply states your objective. I got a four-year degree so I could make brilliant statements like that. But it's true, and most of the sample resume objectives you'll find online are statements of what the job seeker wants.

That's a mistake. A bad mistake.

A good resume objective statement should tell the reader what the candidate will do for him. Specifically, it ought to tell him what profit the candidate will add.

No, I'm not kidding. Here's an example of what I mean:

"A highly experienced sales and marketing professional with comprehensive strategic planning and implementation skills, and million in total profit improvement added in 8 years, seeking a position as a Sales Manager where these skills will add similar or greater value."

Wow! That objective statement screams, "Keep reading!" Do YOU know any hiring manager or executive who would turn his nose up at million in 8 years? I don't. It's at least worth talking to you about, which means you'll get an interview. What if it was only million, or 0,000? Whatever the number, it's money, and that counts.

And that, folks, is the magic. Everything in the job search process should have a focused purpose, and be done on purpose. The purpose of your resume and cover letter is to compel an interview. A strong objective statement like that can help.

Feel free to start with a sample or three. Just be sure to modify any sample you use. Keep the good and scrap the bad.

But is that the best you can do? Hardly.

I have nothing against objective statements, and you can find some solid sample resume objectives online. My only gripe is that using a solid objective statement is settling for good when there's a (typically) better alternative.

That alternative is the resume summary. Some might call it a "Profile," or a "Summary of Qualifications," or even just "Qualifications." Whatever the name, it's a grab-'em-by-the-throat killer. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

"Savvy, results-oriented leader with proven success in managing multimillion-dollar software product rollouts to disparate sales channels. Background includes launching a high-productivity expert development team, increasing revenue by .5 million and achieving unit profitability within nine months (six months ahead of plan), at Widgets, Inc., with leading technology and feature-rich product releases to meet known demand. Critical thinker and adept negotiator who can apply extensive industry knowledge to profitable vendor partnerships and revenue-enhancing co-branding opportunities. Expertly directs development, technology integration, and customer demand discovery. Published author, and frequent keynote speaker at industry conferences."

Good grief! If the example resume objective a few paragraphs ago was solid, that summary will leave a reader gasping for air.

Put a summary like that in a resume (with your own qualifications in it, of course), and you'll almost certainly get a phone call for a job interview.

I can hear you saying that whoever has the summary you just read can walk on water. What about lowly old you? Here's what I used on my last resume, and I wasn't a high-powered executive either:

"Results-oriented software developer and consulting project manager with six years' experience at Big 5 firm. Experienced OO developer with particular expertise in Java and Extreme Programming (XP). Over seven years' experience developing software and managing projects in challenging, fast-paced consulting environments. Demonstrated ability to acquire technical knowledge and skills rapidly. Innovative problem solver, able to see the business and technical sides of a problem. Proven leadership, negotiation and problem resolution abilities. Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written. Published author and conference speaker."

See? That summary needs some improvement, but it shows mere mortals can do it too. That means you can.

A powerfully stated objective statement makes your resume pop. A powerfully stated summary makes it a thermonuclear explosion. Most others in the resume pile (and there's always a pile) have objectives that translate into "get a job." Then you come along with a Sherman tank summary. They're dead meat.

Make no mistake, job search is war. Powerful summaries give you an advantage.

Advantages of Mathematics

Many of us wondered about the advantages of Mathematics during our childhood days. Many of us were not able to comprehend the benefits of mathematics beyond the daily usage of calculating simple numbers. Let us see in detail what are some of the benefits of learning mathematics and marveling at this arduous subject at early age.

The importance of mathematics is two-fold, it is important in the advancement of science and two, it is important in our understanding of the workings of the universe. And in here and now it is important to individuals for personal development, both mentally and in the workplace.

Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways. Mathematics is important in everyday life, many forms of employment, science and technology, medicine, the economy, the environment and development, and in public decision-making.

Advantages of Mathematics

One should also be aware of the wide importance of Mathematics, and the way in which it is advancing at a spectacular rate. Mathematics is about pattern and structure; it is about logical analysis, deduction, calculation within these patterns and structures. When patterns are found, often in widely different areas of science and technology, the mathematics of these patterns can be used to explain and control natural happenings and situations. Mathematics has a pervasive influence on our everyday lives, and contributes to the wealth of the individual.

The study of mathematics can satisfy a wide range of interests and abilities. It develops the imagination. It trains in clear and logical thought. It is a challenge, with varieties of difficult ideas and unsolved problems, because it deals with the questions arising from complicated structures. Yet it also has a continuing drive to simplification, to finding the right concepts and methods to make difficult things easy, to explaining why a situation must be as it is. In so doing, it develops a range of language and insights, which may then be applied to make a crucial contribution to our understanding and appreciation of the world, and our ability to find and make our way in it.

Increasingly, employers are looking for graduates with strong skills in reasoning and problem solving - just the skills that are developed in a mathematics and statistics degree.

Let us look at a few examples. The computing industry employs mathematics graduates; indeed, many university computing courses are taught by mathematicians. Mathematics is used to create the complex programming at the heart of all computing. Also cryptography, a form of pure mathematics, is deployed to encode the millions of transactions made hourly via the Internet and when we use debit or credit cards. Mathematics and Computer Science is a popular degree choice, and four-year degrees with a placement in industry are also available. The latter give graduates plenty of relevant experience to increase their employability.

Mathematics led to the perfect ratios shown in Renaissance painting. The study of astronomy in the early times of its inception demanded the expansion of our understanding of mathematics and made possible such realizations as the size and weight of the earth, our distance from the sun, the fact that we revolve around it, and other discoveries that allowed us to move forward in our body of knowledge without which we would not have any of our modern marvels of technology.

The computer itself is a machine built upon the principles of mathematics, being an invention so important as to bring about an economic revolution of efficiency in data communication and processing.

NLP Eye Movement - A Powerful Technique in Neurolinguistic Programming

NLP eye movement or neurolinguistic programming eye pattern movements consist of a methods intended to determine whether an individual you are speaking with is kinesthetic, auditory or visual in his selected communication and learning approach. Every person has a specific choice regarding communication and learning though other styles can emerge on several occasions.

Aside from the three approaches, there is one more neurolinguistic programming eye pattern movement domain ñ the auditory digital. Among the four, it is not a preferred type. There are instances when your score comes out equal for the visual, kinesthetic and auditory but others still choose a specific domain like the visual. When that happens, an individual have more visual attributes rather auditory and kinesthetic attributes.

Now, written questionnaire which will help you identify a person's chosen style is not always available. Thus a quick visual evaluation for NLP eye movement is a perfect alternative. Make a fast and precise evaluation when you will personally speak with someone. Or, when you decide to talk with the respondent through email or on the telephone, you can combine words and phrases together with a mixture of visual, auditory and kinesthetic domain.

NLP Eye Movement - A Powerful Technique in Neurolinguistic Programming

When talking to your respondent, be very attentive of the language that he or she is using in order for you to determine their approach properly. Look for the specific neurolinguistic programming eye pattern movement when conversing with him or her, most especially when your respondent answers your inquiries. Identifying his or her style can indicate that you may fiddle with your language to make your respondent becomes comfortable talking to you.

Using the NLP eye movement patterns, it would be very beneficial if can create an immediate rapport with your patient. This way, the patient's reactions will be very spontaneous which will lead you to have an accurate assessment. So, when raising a question to your respondent, observe if he looks up before responding, if he does, he is on the visual domain. Or if your respondent stares sideways prior to answering, he is on the auditory domain.

You will know that your respondent is in kinesthetic realm of NLP eye movement pattern once he stares down to his right. This should be a major indicator that you should be alert about with your patients. This would indicate that the patient is in digital auditory domain when he stares down at his left side or on the area around the location of the heart. Responds are quick so be sure to be very attentive.

How To Lead Praise and Worship - 3 Keys to Success

If you want to learn how to lead praise and worship that flows there are some things that you can do to encourage this. One of the most common problems I see in many praise and worship leaders is that the service does not flow naturally and gently from song to song, either because of the church service format all because of the leaders in experience.

Programming the Church Service

One of the most significant barriers to learning how to lead praise and worship that flows can be the church service structure. Many churches see the music as punctuation around the other areas of the service, so the church service program allows only one or two songs to be sung in a sequence before the flow is broken up by other activities, such as announcements, the offering, prayer, missionary spots, and so on.

How To Lead Praise and Worship - 3 Keys to Success

If you want to learn to lead worship that really flows, the first step is to approach the pastor about the format of the meeting. Ask him if he would mind combining all of the above listed activities into one particular place in the service, allowing you to run three or four songs together in worship. This simple change in format can change the way you learn how to lead very significantly.

Blending Songs

One of the key elements in learning how to lead worship effectively lies in song selection. If you select songs in a similar key, or songs that are easily able to be blended together, then you will be going a long way towards a worship service which flows naturally from song to song. This can transform your church because they would no longer be singing a selection of songs that they will be able to flow from song to song and enjoy an entire worship experience. Learning how to do this effectively is one of the great keys in learning how to lead praise and worship in an anointed way.

Speaking Less

One of the most frequent problems I see with inexperienced leaders who are learning how to lead praise and worship is that they speak too much. If it is not going well they speak to the audience, in telling them to get involved or praying with them. Please do not misunderstand, I am not saying it is wrong to speak during the worship service.

However, my experience is that as you learn how to lead praise and worship you will also learn how to keep quiet and let God draw people's hearts into the service, not your words. This allows people to concentrate on the world and not on your thoughts, prayers or opinions. Most of the truly great worship times I have ever experienced, with myself or someone else leading, have involved little or no talking between songs.

There is much more to learn about how to lead praise and worship effectively, but these three points can start you getting the right direction.
